Dr. John K. Kamau is a highly skilled and team-oriented Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) with a wealth of experience spanning outpatient clinics, nursing facilities, and correctional environments. His expertise lies in delivering compassionate, patient-centered care through comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, effective medication management, and collaborative treatment planning.

John is deeply committed to supporting underprivileged populations and excels in therapeutic communication, crisis intervention, and managing high-stress situations. In his current role as a Doctorate Psychiatric Practitioner at Appointed Time Health Services, Dr. Kamau is responsible for planning, developing, and evaluating clinical care for patients, providing clinical supervision to other practitioners, and participating in strategic planning to enhance mental health services. His role emphasizes leadership, policy development, and the provision of high-quality patient care.

Dr. Kamau also provides psychiatric services at Counterpoint Health Services in Columbia, MD, where he conducts diagnostic evaluations, manages medication regimens, provides supportive therapy, and ensures timely documentation. At Harford-Belair Community Mental Health Center, he delivers outpatient psychiatric services, addressing urgent behavioral health needs and providing consistent follow-up care.

His prior experience includes working with nursing facilities at Brighter Days Mental Health and Recovery Center, where he focused on therapy and medication management, and as a Registered Nurse at Baltimore Central Booking and Intake Center, where he managed detox protocols, monitored withdrawal symptoms, and coordinated care for incarcerated individuals.

Dr. Kamau earned his Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) from Walden University, a Master of Science in Nursing (PMHNP) from Walden University, and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Western Governors University, all completed with honors. His certifications include Maryland licensure as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and Registered Nurse, as well as active DEA and CDS certifications.

A recognized leader and mentor, Dr. Kamau is an active member of the Maryland Nurses Association, Nurse Practitioner Association of Maryland, and American Psychiatric Nursing Association. His passion for professional development has earned him accolades such as membership in the Golden Key International Honor Society.
